If you landed on Tarantula: Authors and Art for the very first time or are a new subscriber, it is not so unusual. After all, we have been slowly coming out of our shell for the last year, and finding our voice. We are glad that you made it over here, right in time for our first birthday. Join us in our little celebration by subscribing or sharing our digital publication with your soul tribe.
… let’s start with a little reflection and traveling back in time to our Birth Suit … ready?
Here we go!
June 6th, 2021
Birth Suit: one article. Raw. Naked. Without a lot of knowledge except that it needed to be written. However, the first breath, filled the birth suit with a little bit of energy eager to build something, create everything. A bit like a newborn, not aware of the rules of society, make a first step, then contemplate.
The second day, it already wanted to grow, the skin became tighter needing to expand, needing to stretch to its fullest capacity, so that it could become a container for many adventures to come. So it trained, worked those muscles to pull up, crawl across the floor to reach a destination further and further away.
A need existed, a desire to expand beyond the individual body as well as to share the acquired content with more bodies: bodies that are adorned with beautiful ornaments of their own choice, that held stories that they personally lived through. Every blemish, mark, pore reminds of the many centuries lived through, on how the first body keeps on regenerating, on how creations are made, communities build. Just like Tarantula: Authors And Art.
Happy 1st Birthday Tarantula: Authors And Art!
We wouldn’t have created this body of work without our first five paid subscribers who fuelled us each time we had our doubts. Honestly, we knew we had to survive for a year because you paid, so thank you!
Marina Mata Rohe, Djurdjica Milanovic, Mary-Anne Eliasson, Tijana Pakic Feterman and Joakim Zetterström
However, now, we are hooked and want to continue, so why not celebrate!

What are we celebrating?
Without visualising or making a 5 year plan, we followed our intuition and inspiration and after writing one article that ignited it all, we wrote many more, became a body of 4 writers, represented 8 artists from around the world, and became friends with people close and afar that we didn’t know existed. Our mission to build a creative community in the post-pandemic world is slowly coming true.
We have a dog! A hero, a protagonist who lends himself to seeing the art world and world around us from a POV of a creature that coexists with humans on planet Earth. Every worry we have, deadline we imposed on ourselves and are scared to miss, we just take a look at him as he licks his fur, or plays his games, and we know for sure: We need more dog in our brain! Oh, how nice it feels to just be.
We spent each month communicating with one artist, the relationship feels intense and intimate, and we get so much inspiration from these moments, and hopefully some friendships and future collaborations!
Why Is Art Important?
A year after we started slowly emerging out of the pandemic period, the world around us is still struggling to come out of its old usual ways, shootings, wars, the climate, diseases … big issues showing a lot of individual discontent trying to be solved by big leaders.
Our mission however, is to try and offer you small moments for your body and soul as we are, at this moment in history, all aware of the importance of mental health. We want to infuse you with joy and arts and maybe different ideas in attempt to build a gentler and kinder world. Without beauty and creation it is easier to hate, feel unhappiness, lose empathy.
Creating is healing for our bodies, all our bodies. We understand that we are not one-size-fits-all kind of bodies, so we try to offer you different artists and different stories in hope that one or two touch your soul.
So in the next year, we commit to continuing to:
immerse ourselves in inspiration
connect with creative energy
get you in touch with art through our digital monthly art gallery
give you more “dog in your life”
open your senses though rituals, pondering and magic
A birthday celebrations can not be celebrated without gifts, so we prepared a “goody bag” for you:
A Guide To A Creative Summer (e-magazine) that includes archived articles and art that will give you a kick start to tailor a creative summer to your own needs. (click on the pdf link underneath the cover page to access the 24 page guide)
Summer Vibes! A summer play list. (the names of the musicians included in the e-magazine)
Q & A A chance to ask us any questions between June 6th and 10th about the artists, our creative processes, chocolate, Wolfie, the dog, anything. We will answer them throughout the month. The person who asks us the most inspiring question will receive a signed photograph from our featured artist of June, Kristina Aleksynaite. (Leave your questions in the comments, or hop over to our Instagram Stories this week and leave them over there!)
Cacao Infused Creativity Join us as we open our own senses with a guided chocolate tasting. Can experimenting, in this case with cocoa, lead to creativity?
